Why is it so easy for some people to do good deeds? Why is it so easy for others? Virtue is a muscle, and it needs to be trained just like any other; but we don’t have published progression charts for training virtue, so we must do the best we can with what we have.
We generally associate ‘sobriety’ with alcoholics or drug addicts; people that have addiction issues ruining their lives, and who decide to abstain entirely from a chemical intoxicant. But what I mean by ‘sober’ is a bit different, and goes beyond just saying “no” to liquor; I mean to identify all the things that prevent me from reaching my goals, and saying ‘no’ to all those things, as best as I can.
